Toy Tractor

Peter BakerPeter Baker: This was quite a surprise. Tell me what you’ve got.

Owner (sister): Well, it’s a farm Brother and Sister toy ownersset my Dad received as a child, about 1943 through 1945 during the war years. And then it was for my sister and my brothers and I to play with as we grew up because my grandmother kept it. And we’ve had it all these years so it’s just…

Peter Baker: In remarkable condition. They’re all British toys – was your father overseas when he bought them?

Owner (brother): My father was overseas but to the best of my knowledge the majority ofFarm Toy Set these were bought in Winnipeg.

Peter Baker: Oh, were they?

Owner (brother): There must have been specialty stores of some sort in the Winnipeg area because that’s where we lived during the War.

Peter Baker: The condition of these objects, the fact that you have the original boxes in many of the cases is a big factor. To collectors of toys condition is everything and the box alone, people would pay the same price for the box without the toy inside just because it’s so Farm Toy Boxesrare to have the box with the graphics and look at the condition of this – you’ve got the farmer and you’ve got the tractor in absolutely amazing condition. Colours are bright. It’s just like brand-new – it’s like it’s never been used. This one, you’ve got – the box is a bit rough – but when you open it up and you see what’s inside here the plough, colours, the condition, again, it’s just been immaculately maintained.

I think if we’re looking at the value as a collection, easily $1500 to $2000, IFarm Toy Plough would say, if you were looking at it as a collection.

Owners: (together): Wow!

Peter Baker: And you probably wouldn’t want to sell them separately, but, you know, the value is in these units, the larger units, with the boxes and the condition – that’s the key, and if you let anyone play with them, make sure they’re careful. (laughter)
