Great Finds from St. John's

Bachelor teapot and SugarSilver expert Roger Crowther was quite taken with this silver tea service. The small teapot, otherwise known as a ‘bachelor’ teapot and the cream and sugar was made by George Fox, one of the brothers who dominated the silver trade in the middle of the 19th century. The set was owned by the guest’s sister’s mother-in-law who had purchased it in the 1940s.Creamer Roger thought that for Fox fanciers the little set might fetch as much as $5000 at auction.

There’s no end to the unusual things we see on Roadshow, but the paper dress Ed Locke came across in St. John’s might actually make the top ten. Made for the 1968 Liberal Convention, when Pierre Trudeau was elected as the leader of the party, this paper dress, which featured Trudeau’s famous face, is a true collector’s item. It was actually worn by Trudeau supporters back in the day- and although this version is currently nicely framed, it too was once worn by its owner. Ed figures it’s worth between $1500-2000.
