This
Reed and Barton lamp was purchased on Fort Street in Victoria in 1965
for the princely sum of $1500. Reed and Barton were primarily makers of
silver plate, but also made fine art nouveau lamps. This one in particular
was made about 1910 in New York and the shade itself had a “nice
rattle” which Toronto-based appraiser Bill Kime said wouldn’t
be found on “a modern reproduction.” The lamp still works
and its value has gone up in the last forty years, (it’s now worth
between $3000-5000) so its owner wins on two counts!

Estela
Pelegrin came across an unusual brooch during her visit to Victoria: a
stuffed hummingbird mounted on a pin with cabochon rubies for eyes and
a gold beak. A family piece meant to be handed down from one generation
to the next, Estela thought that the item was both unusual and valuable.
She thought it might realize between $500-600 at auction.
