Q
& A

Can
you tell me if there is any real value to a book "The Collected Works
of William Henry Drummond" autographed by the author. This book is
in very good condition.
We
asked Jeri Bass to respond:
Books by Dr. Drummond do not usually fetch a
high value. In my experience there are two reasons for this: (1) He was
very popular in his day and many of his books were published and republished
in large numbers...which means the books are not hard to find. (2) He
liked to write in dialect and while that may have added flavor for a regional
audience today's readers find the dialect hard to read and often not to
their taste.
Even
if your copy of "The Collected Works" is a first edition, I
am afraid it is worth under $20.00. Generally the "Collected Works"
of any author are published after most of the good writing has been done
and have less value. An exception to this would be sets bound in fine
leather.
