Vancouver, British Columbia

May 30, 2004 at The Vancouver Public Library

Vancouver Library

Vancouver was settled around 500 B.C. by coastal Indians, but wasn’t incorporated until 1886. The city was named after Captain George Vancouver, who had explored the area in 1792

Designed by Moshe Safdie & Associates' Downs/Archambault Partners, the Vancouver Public Library is reminiscent of a Roman Coliseum. It houses over 1.5 million items, many of them rare and valuable. The arrival of the Canadian Antiques Roadshow augmented that number, at least temporarily.
