Gatineau, QuebecMay 14, 2004 - Museum of Civilization
Gatineau, formerly known as Hull, is located at the far western edge of Quebec at the confluence of the Ottawa and Gatineau Rivers, across from Ottawa. The community sprang us as a result of the logging industry in the early 19th century and is now considered part of the National Capital Region. Opened in a brand new purpose-built facility on June 29, 1989, The Canadian Museum of Civilization is comprised of the 9.6- hectare (24-acre) on the Quebec bank of the Ottawa River. Its stunning architecture, designed by Douglas Cardinal, appears to be molded more by natural forces than by human hand, a style particular to Cardinal. “The Canadian Museum of Civilization is committed to fostering in all Canadians a sense of their common identity and their shared past,” thus making it the perfect location for people to share their treasures.
