Calgary,

Stampede Centre

Calgary was incorporated in 1884 although it is estimated that the Bow
River Valley has been inhabited for the last 10,000 years. The West was
still relatively unsettled in the 1880s and, afraid that the United States
might try to annex the as yet undefined provinces of Alberta and British
Columbia, the Canadian government proposed a railway stretching from coast
to coast. This railway, which began construction in 1881, drastically
changed the nature of Calgary from a remote frontier to a bustling city.
Probably
the most famous event in Calgary is the Stampede and the Canadian Antiques
Roadshow chose the Calgary Stampede Round-Up Centre’s Palomino Room
as the venue for its appraisal’s day.
